ABOUT US

The Port Fairy Coastal Group was founded to facilitate community participation in coastal management decisions. We hope that residents and visitors will benefit from opportunities to help shape Port Fairy’s future coast.

The group was founded in 2011 by community members concerned about erosion of the beaches and dunes around Port Fairy who wanted to be part of the solution.

Our ongoing projects include:

  • the Beach Monitoring Program, where every six weeks we use a drone to accurately measure beach profiles along about 4km of East Beach.

  • Year 6 School Science Project involves students from St Patrick's Catholic School, using a laser to monitor beach profiles at Pea Soup, South Beach

Our mission

  1. To consolidate community based views about best management options for the Moyne River Estuary system and associated coastlines.

  2. To negotiate with all Government Agencies to include the community in making decisions for the Moyne River Estuary system and associated coastlines.

  3. To consult widely, collecting and examining pertinent information and continuously improving and sharing local knowledge.

  4. To encourage a proactive holistic approach, focused on sustainable long-term solutions, using local resources and building regional resilience.

We welcome new members.
