Beach Monitoring

Each month, with support from the Port Fairy Life Saving Club, several of our volunteers head out to measure the sand dunes against 12 fixed posts. Using drones or a surveyors level, they measure sand height, dune toes and the beach profile. Regular monitoring commenced in early 2013.

Analysis of the data and the monthly comment is provided by David Bills-Thompson, PFCG's Technical Officer and Data Co-ordinator.

Objectives of beach monitoring:

• Develop an understanding of sand movement.

• Provide a bench mark of sand movement to assess any implemented remedial strategies.
