New sea wall at Pea Soup
The Moyne Council is constructing a new sea wall at Pea Soup Beach. The 225 rock sea wall will be constructed, weather permitting, over a four week period commencing 9 November.
In a notice to local residents dated MMonday 2 November 2015, the Moyne Shire advised,
"Council has now carried out extensive research and detailed designs, to further protect the local infrastructure and dune network, with the design of a rock armour. This design of a 225m rock seawall, including the replacement of the old seawall, has been prepared by coastal experts.
The construction of the rock seawall will begin towards the end of the week commencing 9 November 2015. The duration of construction will be just over 4 weeks, depending on weather conditions.
The design and construction of the wall has been funded by both Council and the landowners at 1 Ocean Drive and the works will prevent ongoing dune erosion in this location.
As shown on the map, the rock will be unloaded in the existing carpark, west of 1 Ocean Drive. This carpark will be closed during the works, and the existing timber stairwell which is in extremely poor condition, will be removed. There will be no access onto the beach from Ocean Drive or from the Pea Soup carpark during construction.
